Android Closed Beta 1 · version 1.0.0-beta.1 · version code 2
Thanks for helping test CarryAwareNJ. This is an early Android beta, not the full product or a finished equivalent of the iPhone app. The goal is to check installation, the map, search, place details, existing community reports, and navigation before adding more features.
Join and install
- Use the Google account email that Matt added to the tester list. You can check it by tapping your profile picture in the Play Store.
- Open the official CarryAwareNJ tester opt-in page, select Become a tester, and follow the Google Play installation link.
- Confirm that the app is CarryAwareNJ by Mignone Labs. If Play says you are not eligible, check which Google account is selected. Reply to your invitation with your actual Google Play email if it differs.
This closed beta is available to selected testers in the United States. Google Play may need time to recognize newly added tester access.
What to test: a 10–15 minute first pass
- Install and launch. Install from Google Play, open the app, close it, and reopen it. Report installation failures, crashes, freezes, or a screen that never finishes loading.
- Explore the map. Pan and zoom around locations you know. Check that published place markers load, respond to taps, and remain usable while moving around the map.
- Search and filter. Try a few names among the loaded places, switch category filters, and clear them. Note unexpected results, confusing wording, or filters that do not reset.
- Open place details. Tap several places, read their details and any existing community reports, then return to the map. Look for clipped text, incorrect information, and navigation problems.
- Check the community-report preference. Change the preference for showing community reports, close and reopen the app, and check whether your choice is remembered. Community reports are read-only in this beta.
- Try the content controls. If a report offers Report Content, check that it prepares an email composer; cancel it unless you actually intend to report content. This does not submit a new place report. Where available, Block Contributor is local to your device; check the result and restore your preference if you were only testing.
- Open Resources and Alerts & Updates. Check that items are readable, their external source links open, and you can return to the app. This section does not mean automatic proximity or push alerts are enabled.
- Check everyday usability. Note slow loading, unexpected battery use, unreadable text, overlapping controls, or issues with your usual text-size settings.
Check familiar places from a safe, stationary location. Do not interact with the app while driving.
What is not included yet
- No device-location permission, location monitoring, or proximity notifications.
- No user accounts, new community-place submissions, photo uploads, or voting.
- Existing community reports can be read. Report Content prepares an email for you to send; it is not a new community submission.
- Not every feature shown in iPhone materials is available in this Android beta. Please test the features listed above.
Send useful feedback
Reply to your invitation or email support@mignonelabs.com. Include:
- Phone model and Android version.
- The steps you took, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- Whether the problem repeats and which place or screen was involved.
- A screenshot if helpful; hide private information before sending it.
Example: “On my Galaxy S23, I opened the map, selected a category filter, then cleared it. I expected all loaded places to return, but the map stayed empty. This happened twice.”
Missing or inaccurate place information is also useful feedback. A marker is not an official determination that carrying is permitted or prohibited. CarryAwareNJ is an independent app, does not represent a government entity, and is not legal advice.
