CarryAwareNJ (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) provides situational awareness tools for users in New Jersey, including location-based alerts and user-reported information.

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how it is used.

1. Information We Collect

Location Data

CarryAwareNJ uses your device’s location to provide proximity-based alerts for restricted or sensitive locations.

  • If you grant “Always” location permission, the app may access your location in the background to deliver timely alerts when you approach relevant locations.
  • We do not store or retain your historical location data.

User-Submitted Content

If you submit a location or report, we may collect:

  • Location details (address or coordinates)
  • Optional notes or comments

This data is stored in Firebase Firestore and may be visible to other users.

Device & Usage Data

We may collect limited diagnostic and usage data through Firebase, including:

  • App performance information
  • Crash logs
  • Basic usage analytics

Contact Information

If you use the feedback email feature:

  • Your email and message are sent through your email provider.
  • We do not separately store this information.

2. Authentication

CarryAwareNJ currently uses anonymous authentication.

Future versions may include:

  • Sign in with Apple
  • Google Sign-In

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide location-based alerts
  • Display user-reported locations
  • Improve app performance and reliability
  • Respond to user feedback and support requests

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.

However:

  • User-submitted reports may be visible to other users of the app.
  • We use Firebase (Google) to store and process application data.

5. Data Security

We use industry-standard tools and services to help protect information.

However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Choices

You may:

  • Disable location services through your device settings
  • Decline to submit user reports
  • Stop using the app at any time

Please note that some app functionality may be limited if location access is disabled.

7. Children’s Privacy

CarryAwareNJ is not intended for children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

Any updates will be reflected by revising the Effective Date at the top of this page.
